Toyota launched the Camry Hybrid facelift in India at a price of Rs 41.70 lakh (Former Showroom, India). The current eighth-generation Camry was launched in India in 2019, and now Toyota is offering a mid-life update to the sedan, albeit a very subtle one. Updates to the Toyota Camry facelift include mild exterior cosmetic changes and an improved infotainment system, although there are no changes under the skin.

  • Camry’s face-lift cosmetic updates include a revised front end and taillights
  • The interior has been upgraded with a larger 9-inch touch screen and new software
  • Camry facelift does not make any mechanical changes under the hood

Toyota Camry facelift: what’s new outside?

This mid-life update on the Camry was revealed globally in late 2020. The cosmetic changes to the updated Camry are so subtle that it can take more than a fleeting glimpse to tell the new from the old. At the front, the Camry gets a sleeker grille that has less chrome than its predecessor. The front bumper now features a larger, wider center air intake, and has new chrome accents on the sides.

There aren’t any significant profile changes, the most notable being the new 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. At the back, the Camry gets new darkened inserts for the taillights, to complement all the exterior updates.

Facelift Toyota Camry: interior and features

The highlight of the new Camry’s interior is the new 9.0-inch floating infotainment screen that replaces the previous model’s 8.0-inch integrated screen. The air-conditioning vents have also been repositioned under the infotainment screen, as well as a new finish for the dashboard, center console and armrests. The infotainment system now comes with improved software and, in particular, it finally got Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Camry is available in one complete download piece. As such, it is equipped with features such as three-zone climate control, a sunroof, a nine-speaker JBL audio system, power-reclining rear seats, electric sunshades for rear passengers, powered and ventilated front seats with memory function for the driver’s seat, and a cargo cushion. Wireless, rear camera, head-up display, nine airbags and a host of other safety systems that can be expected from a car in this class.

Toyota Camry facelift: engine details

The Camry is based on Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, and the improved model remains mechanically unchanged from its predecessor.

Under the hood, the Camry features a 178-hp 2.5-liter petrol engine paired with a 120-horsepower permanent magnet synchronous motor, with combined system power of 218 horsepower. The powertrain comes paired with a CVT automatic gearbox. Thanks to the highly efficient hybrid system, the Camry has a fuel economy of 23.27kpl.

Toyota Camry facelift: the competitors

Compared to a pre-facelift model which was on sale for Rs 41.20 lakh (Former Showroom, Delhi), the prices of the new Camry have gone up by Rs 50,000. Since the Honda Accord Hybrid is no longer for sale in India, the only competitor to the Camry in our market will be the Skoda Superb which has a price range of 32.85 lakh-35.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
